About Dachepalli Publishers: business, products and customers
Dachepalli Publishers writes and prints school textbooks from nursery to class ten, mostly for schools in South India, and now also runs an online store where parents order their children's school kits. Its shares trade on BSE SME.
Dachepalli Publishers writes, prints and supplies textbooks and workbooks for nursery to class 10 across CBSE, ICSE and state board schools, under six brands with 616 titles. It prints about 85% of its books at a leased press at IDA Cherlapally in Hyderabad and reaches schools through more than 300 distributors, while its own sales team wins the school adoptions. The family business traces its roots to a bookstall in the early 1900s; the company was formed in 1998 and listed on BSE SME on 30 December 2025.
The way it works shapes the numbers. Schools choose books for the coming year, so sales land mostly between January and June and are collected over the following months, which leaves large unpaid bills and stock at every March year end; paper is also booked as an expense when it is invoiced, so quarterly margins swing with purchase timing even when the full year looks steady. A school that adopts its books usually stays three to four years, helped by videos, test generators and a learning management system given free with the books and paid for through slightly higher book prices.
Read more about the business
The newest line is Pelican Edu Supply, a school-specific online store where parents order class kits of the company's books, other publishers' books, notebooks and stationery for home delivery; it grew from 3 schools to 50 and brought about a third of April to June 2026 sales. Much of it is trading of other companies' products, which earns less than its own titles, so the company has bought machinery to make notebooks itself rather than purchase them. It has also started operations in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Assam.
The offer document names Chetana Education and S Chand and Company as its listed peers. On the July 2026 call management said other publishers are also building free school software, which could narrow its edge.
From the December 2025 offer document, the FY26 annual report, the July 2026 investor presentation and the 28 July 2026 earnings call. The FY26 financial statements in the annual report are scanned images, so balance sheet figures come from the July 2026 presentation.

What the company said, and what happened
The company's own statements, attributed, set against what it later reported; not newboard's estimates
The company plans to take Pelican Edu Supply to 100 to 150 schools next year, offer its own notebooks to more schools and raise its share in newer states, and says its present printing machines can support turnover of about ₹300 cr. On the July 2026 call management gave two different FY27 turnover figures, so neither is shown here.
Is it a good business? Six questions
Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.
Dachepalli earns good margins on its own textbooks supplied to schools that tend to stay for years, and is adding an online store for whole school kits.
Its weak spot is cash: money waits a long time in unpaid bills and unsold books, and the promoter family lends to it and trades with it.
AverageCan it set its own prices?Fairly. Schools pick books on content and the company raised book prices slightly to pay for free software, but its distributors also carry rival publishers.
AverageHow strong is it against rivals?Strong in the south with an old family name, small elsewhere, and its free technology is likely to be copied.
AverageWho are its customers?Thousands of schools reached through distributors, with a handful of distributors and some promoter family firms taking a large share.
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes. It needs little machinery, but unpaid bills and stock tie up more money than a whole year's sales.
StrongCan it keep finding new work?Yes so far. A school that adopts its books usually stays three to four years, and it is adding schools, states and products.
AverageDo good and bad years swing a lot?Demand is steady from year to year, but results swing a lot between quarters because of the school calendar and purchase timing.
