About Shri Hare-Krishna Sponge Iron: business, products and customers

Shri Hare-Krishna Sponge Iron makes sponge iron, a raw material that small steel mills melt to make steel, at its plant near Raipur, and is restarting its own furnace, steel shots and power units there. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

The company turns iron ore, coal and dolomite into sponge iron in a coal fired rotary kiln at Siltara, Raipur, and sells it through brokers on the Steel Chamber platform to induction and electric arc furnace steel makers in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Dolochar and iron ore fines are by products it also sells. Its furnace, steel shots and grits units, which turn sponge iron into higher value products, were shut from 2020 because grid power had become too costly.

Sponge iron is a commodity: the selling price follows steel prices and the cost follows iron ore and coal, so the margin is a spread the company does not control. It sells for cash, so almost nothing is owed by customers, but a stoppage at its single plant stops all sales. That is what happened in FY26, when the kiln was halted to connect it to the waste heat boiler of the new captive power plant, and sales and profit fell.

Read more about the business

The IPO money went into a 5 MW captive power plant, 3 MW from kiln waste heat and 2 MW from rice husk and plant waste, meant to cut power costs and let the melting units run again. The offer document names Vraj Iron and Steel and Chaman Metallics, listed sponge iron makers in central India, as its peers. The board has proposed renaming the company Shri Hare Krishna Integrated Steel Castings & Power Limited.

From the red herring prospectus (June 2025), the FY26 annual report, the investor presentation of December 2025 and the earnings call transcript of November 2025.

In its favour

  • It has little debt for its size: debt to equity 0.27.
  • The promoters own a large part of the company: 73.58%.

To watch

  • Testing, commissioning and stabilisation of the captive power plant, which the FY26 annual report calls the near term priority, and the start of the postponed 2 MW biomass unit.
  • Sales in FY27 against the ₹160 cr the managing director expected at the November 2025 call.
  • Output from the induction furnace and steel shots units restarted in July 2026, and the planned casting division.
  • How the company accounts for the Labour Codes behind the auditor's qualified opinion on FY26.
  • Its borrowings rose a lot last year: ₹28.7 cr, from ₹11.4 cr.

From the company's documents first, then the reported figures read by fixed rules, the same for every company. Facts, not a view on the shares.

Shri Hare-Krishna Sponge Iron debt and cash flow

Balance sheet · Cash flow · Working capital

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown fast. It borrowed much more last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business brought in less cash than it showed as profit, so part of the profit is still to be collected. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers take about as long to pay as they did in FY24.

What the company said, and what happened

The company's own statements, attributed, set against what it later reported; not newboard's estimates

At the November 2025 call the managing director said FY27 sales are expected at about ₹160 cr, half from the existing sponge iron business and half from the restarted furnace, a rolling mill and a new high alloy casting division making tooth points, grinding media and chain links, with a margin of around 13%. The FY26 annual report says the near term priority is finishing the testing and stabilisation of the captive power plant and getting the kiln back to normal working, and the company says ₹4.3 cr of IPO money was still unspent at March 2026.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

The company earns the gap between what steel makers pay for sponge iron and what it pays for ore, coal and power, from a single kiln plant.

Its weak spots are a price it does not set, a few large buyers, one plant where any stoppage halts sales, and a costly power project that has run late.

WatchCan it set its own prices? No. Sponge iron is a commodity whose price follows steel, ore and coal, and the company itself names overcapacity and price pressure in central India.
The evidence. The FY26 annual report lists industry overcapacity and pricing pressure as a threat and says realisations are linked to cyclical steel prices.Annual report FY26, p.42 and p.43
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? It sits near ore and coal mines in a large sponge iron cluster, which keeps costs down, but so do many rivals, some of them much bigger.
The evidence. The offer document cites nearby raw materials as a cost advantage and says some competitors have greater financial and technical resources.Red herring prospectus, p.122; Red herring prospectus, p.35
WatchWho are its customers?Mostly a handful of steel makers in three states, buying without long contracts.
The evidence. Top five customers gave 70.22% of FY25 revenue and the largest 21.70%; there are no long term agreements.Red herring prospectus, p.28
AverageDoes it need a lot of money?Day to day little, because it sells for cash, but the power plant and restart have needed far more money than a year's profit.
The evidence. Receivables were negligible at March 2026; capital work in progress on the power plant was ₹57.7 cr, funded by the IPO, an HDFC Bank term loan and internal accruals.Annual report FY26, p.44 and p.45
AverageCan it keep finding new work?Demand for sponge iron from small steel makers is steady, and the new units widen its range of products, but the new products are still to prove themselves.
The evidence. The furnace and steel shots units restarted in July 2026; the casting division for tooth points and grinding media was planned for mid 2026.Annual report FY26, p.19; Earnings call transcript, November 2025, p.3
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. Steel prices move results, and a stoppage at the one plant shows up at once, as the second half of FY26 showed.
The evidence. FY26 revenue fell to ₹66.6 cr from ₹80.5 cr after the kiln was halted; second half profit was ₹1.6 cr against ₹4.7 cr in the first half.Annual report FY26, p.44; Half-year results, FY26
