About Jainam Ferro Alloys (I): business, products and customers

Jainam Ferro Alloys makes ferro manganese, a metal mix that steel mills add to molten steel to make it stronger, at a plant in Raipur, and is moving its furnaces onto its own solar power. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Jainam Ferro Alloys runs one plant in the Urla Industrial Area of Raipur, taken over from Raghuvir Ferro Alloys in 2016, with two submerged arc furnaces of 9 MVA and 6 MVA. It makes mainly high carbon ferro manganese, with some silico manganese and the slag left over from smelting, and also trades manganese ore. Its customers are steel and stainless steel makers; the FY25 annual report names Steel Authority of India, JSW Steel, Jindal Stainless, Jindal Steel & Power and Jayaswal Neco, and all sales are within India.

The business is a converter of bought materials, and that shapes every number. Manganese ore comes largely from South Africa, France and the UAE and coke from Singapore, the furnaces run on large amounts of electricity, and the alloy price follows the steel market, so profit is a thin gap between the alloy price and the cost of ore, coke and power that can widen or vanish within a year. Sales move with alloy prices as much as with tonnes, ore trading adds sales at a low margin, and interest on bank deposits, loans and investments has made up a large part of recent profit.

Read more about the business

The new step is captive solar power, since power is one of its largest costs. A first plant has run since June 2024, and a 27 MWp plant at Tekapar in Khairagarh district, estimated at about ₹85.0 cr, was commissioned on 21 May 2026 to feed the ferro plant, with a further plant planned. It also owns most of a small diagnostics company, JW Diagnostic and Research Center, and the offer document says manganese ore mines in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh came with the 2016 plant purchase but had not been mined because their transfer was pending.

The offer document names Maithan Alloys, Sarda Energy & Minerals, Shri Bajrang Power and Ispat, Deepak Ferro Alloys, Hira Ferro Alloys and Shree Girija Smelters as competitors in ferro alloys. The FY26 annual report lists Maithan Alloys again among Indian makers, along with Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys, MOIL, Balasore Alloys and Shyam Ferro Alloys. It calls power cost, ore security and plant efficiency the main factors that decide who competes well.

From the offer document (September 2021), the FY25 and FY26 annual reports, the November 2022 investor presentation and earnings call, and the exchange announcement of 22 May 2026.

To watch

  • Results for the half year to September 2026, the first half with the 27 MWp solar plant running from 21 May 2026: whether power and fuel cost falls against sales (Exchange announcement, 22 May 2026; Annual report FY26, p.42).
  • The ICICI Bank solar loan: ₹14.6 cr drawn of ₹35.0 cr by March 2026, repaid in monthly instalments over six years from March 2027, and the further solar plant the company expects by next year (Annual report FY26, p.42 and p.62).
  • Money moving to related parties: loans to Jainam Builders and J.W. Medicare, fixed assets purchased from Namita Parakh and Arpit Parakh, and ₹1.5 cr of debentures of Propspace Square, a company with a common director (Annual report FY26, p.69 to p.70).
  • Offer document matters: a National Green Tribunal case alleging the plant ran beyond capacity and pollution standards, and tax appeals against group company Jainam Builders; the FY26 report notes no significant court or regulator orders (Offer document, p.212, p.214; Annual report FY26, p.22).
  • Customers take longer to pay than before: 17 days in FY26, against 13 in FY19.

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown. It borrowed much more last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business brought in more cash than it showed as profit. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers pay faster than they did in FY24, which frees up the company's money.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Jainam turns imported manganese ore, coke and a lot of electricity into an alloy for steel mills, and keeps the thin gap between the alloy price and those costs.

Its weak spots are that it takes market prices, depends on a few large steel customers without long contracts, and has leaned on interest income for much of its recent profit.

WatchCan it set its own prices? No. The alloy price follows the steel market, and the company picks customers by the price they offer.
The evidence. The offer document says demand and pricing in the steel industry directly affect profitability; the Managing Director said customers are chosen on the prices they offer at the time.Offer document, p.33; Earnings call, November 2022, p.8
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? It is a small maker in a fragmented industry with large, established rivals. Its own solar power could lower its biggest controllable cost, which the company names as the main factor in competing.
The evidence. The offer document calls the industry fragmented, with large established players and small niche players; the FY26 annual report lists power cost as the major determinant of production cost.Offer document, p.115; Annual report FY26, p.42
AverageWho are its customers?Large, well known steel makers, which it says it serves against letters of credit or advance payment, but a handful of them make up most of sales and none is on a long contract.
The evidence. Top ten customers were 74.80% of FY21 revenue; the company does not typically enter into long term contracts and supplies mainly through commission agents.Offer document, p.34, p.36 and p.115; Earnings call, November 2022, p.8
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes, for now. The solar plants are large for a company of its size, and ore and alloy stocks tie up cash all the time.
The evidence. The two solar projects are estimated at about ₹85.0 cr and ₹18.0 cr; FY26 purchase of fixed assets was ₹68.8 cr against equity of ₹148.0 cr; borrowings rose to ₹20.7 cr from ₹1.4 cr.Annual report FY26, p.16, p.54 and p.56
WatchCan it keep finding new work?Demand from steel makers is steady, but there is no order book and no new furnace announced, so sales depend on prices and the same two furnaces.
The evidence. In November 2022 orders were booked about two months ahead and capacity was planned to double within two years; the FY25 and FY26 annual reports describe the same two furnaces and put new spending into solar.Earnings call, November 2022, p.7; Investor presentation, November 2022, p.3; Annual report FY25, p.80; Annual report FY26, p.16
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. Profit rose sharply in the year the company listed and has been much lower since, as alloy and ore prices moved.
The evidence. Profit after tax was ₹28.0 cr in FY22 and ₹6.5 cr in FY26; the Managing Director called the commodities market cyclical.Investor presentation, November 2022, p.16; Annual report FY26, p.15; Earnings call, November 2022, p.5
