About Madhur Knit Crafts: business, products and customers

Madhur Knit Crafts turns yarn into knitted winter fabrics and blankets at its plant in Ludhiana, and sells them mostly to manufacturers, wholesalers and traders in Punjab. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Madhur Knit Crafts knits, dyes, prints, brushes, raises and finishes fabric under one roof at Village Seera in Ludhiana. It sells fleece, sherpa and anti pilling fabrics for winter wear, blankets, a few garments, and processing work done for other mills, and holds trademarks such as Penguin, La' Peneli and Dickie Bird. The company was founded in 1997 by Arun Gupta, Rajesh Gupta, Ravi Gupta and Vishnu Gupta and began commercial production in 2013 with blankets.

It works to order: yarn is bought from Ludhiana dealers only after a customer confirms an order, and part of the cloth is bought unfinished and then processed. Because the company buys the material and sells finished cloth by weight, revenue carries the full cost of yarn and fabric, so margins sit at processing levels and move with yarn prices that follow crude oil. Demand peaks ahead of winter and the company pays yarn suppliers early to earn discounts, so stock and customer dues tie up much of its money and bank loans fund the gap.

Read more about the business

Buyers are manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers and institutional clients, found through repeat orders, references and trade fairs, with blankets reaching shops through dealers; there are no long term contracts. The offer document names one listed peer, Kaytex Fabrics, as comparable because it also makes fabric from yarn to finished cloth. Star Cottex, which the offer document lists as a group company and a related party, makes similar textile products, and the two have signed a non compete agreement.

What is new: the company is building up technical textiles such as paint roller fabric, which it says are still a small part of sales, and plans to find more buyers in southern India and to restart fabric exports. It also plans a rooftop solar plant at the factory.

Madhur Knit Crafts debt and cash flow

Balance sheet · Cash flow · Working capital

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown fast. Its loans are now larger than its own money. Last year the business brought in less cash than it showed as profit, so part of the profit is still to be collected. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers pay faster than they did in FY24, which frees up the company's money.

The company says it will use the issue money in FY27 to repay part of its loans, to fund working capital and to build a rooftop solar plant of about 1,500 kW at its factory, which it expects to cut its yearly electricity bill by about ₹1.4 cr. Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Madhur Knit Crafts earns a processing margin on yarn and fabric it buys, knits and finishes to order, and that margin improved once every step came under one roof.

Its weak spots are money tied up in stock and customer dues, large purchases from related family firms, and sales that lean on the winter season.

WatchCan it set its own prices? It sells cloth that many mills can make, and it cannot be sure of passing on higher yarn costs in time.
The evidence. The offer document calls the industry highly competitive and largely unorganised, says yarn price rises may not be passed on fully or in time, and notes that the conflict between the United States and Iran has already moved raw material prices.Offer document, p.27 and p.30
AverageHow strong is it against rivals?Doing every step in one plant inside a textile hub gives it speed and control, but it has no technology of its own.
The evidence. The company says its processes are conventional, that it does no proprietary research, and that it competes with organised, unorganised and foreign makers.Offer document, p.30, p.145 and p.146
AverageWho are its customers?Sales are spread over hundreds of buyers, but nearly all of them are in Punjab and none is bound by a long contract.
The evidence. Retained customers gave 66.55% of revenue in the eleven months to February 2026, and the company says it generally does not sign long term contracts.Offer document, p.26 and p.30
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Stock and unpaid customer bills take up a large share of each year's sales, so growth needs borrowed money.
The evidence. Working capital stood at 43.09% of revenue for the eleven months to February 2026, funded by short term bank loans and internal accruals, and part of the issue money goes to working capital.Offer document, p.88 and p.89
AverageCan it keep finding new work?It keeps adding buyers and has room left in the plant, while the newer lines it talks about are still small.
The evidence. New customers gave 33.45% of revenue in the eleven months to February 2026; the company says technical textiles remain limited and its export plan is a revival.Offer document, p.133 and p.136
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Profit has moved a lot from year to year, and sales follow the winter season.
The evidence. The profit margin was 1.01% in FY23 and 6.43% in FY25, and the company says demand peaks in the months leading up to winter.Offer document, p.26 and p.133
