About Asston Pharmaceuticals: business, products and customers

Asston Pharmaceuticals sells low-cost generic medicines such as tablets, capsules and syrups, mostly to pharmacies and importers in West Africa, and also makes some health supplements. Its shares trade on BSE SME.

The company was set up in Navi Mumbai in 2019 to have medicines made for export. It sells tablets, capsules, oral liquids, creams and powder sachets under its own Asston brands, mainly painkillers, deworming tablets, oral rehydration salts and vitamins, to pharmacies and importers in Sierra Leone, Mali and other West African countries, with a small trade in Maharashtra and Gujarat. In April 2024 it acquired Ferron Lifecare, a nutraceutical maker promoted by its own promoters, at Ambernath, which got drug approval in December 2024 to make tablets.

The business model shapes the numbers. Most products have been made by outside contract manufacturers to the company's formulas, with the company supplying raw materials and packing, so it needs little plant but earns a trading-style margin and depends on a few makers. Export buyers pay slowly, so money owed by customers is large against sales, and in FY26 a large other income line, rather than sales, carried most of the profit while revenue from operations was almost flat.

Read more about the business

What is new: a second plant, Unit II at Additional Ambernath, began commercial production on 21 January 2026, partly paid for by the July 2025 issue, and can make both medicines and supplements. The offer document names no listed rivals; it describes a crowded generic market with low entry barriers where price decides most orders. The Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary both changed in October 2025, and three new directors joined between October 2025 and March 2026.

In its favour

  • Sales have grown very fast: 57% a year over three years.
  • It has little debt for its size: debt to equity 0.13.

To watch

  • How much Unit II, which started production on 21 January 2026, adds to sales (Annual Report 2026, p.28).
  • Whether other income stays as large as in FY26 or profit has to come from sales again (Annual Report 2026, p.11).
  • Sales spread beyond Sierra Leone and the top ten buyers (Offer document, p.159 and p.161).
  • The new auditor, Panchal S K & Associates, appointed after the earlier auditor resigned in January 2026 (Annual Report 2026, p.22).
  • Customers take longer to pay than before: 524 days in FY26, against 243 in FY22.

Asston Pharmaceuticals debt and cash flow

Balance sheet · Cash flow · Working capital

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown fast. It cut its borrowings last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business used more cash than it brought in. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers take longer to pay than they did in FY24, which ties up more of the company's money in unpaid bills.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

The company earns a margin on cheap generic medicines, mostly made by others to its formulas and shipped to a few buyers in West Africa.

Its weak spots are that one small country and a handful of buyers bring in most sales, buyers pay slowly, and the latest year's profit came mainly from other income.

WatchCan it set its own prices? No. It sells unbranded and low-cost generics into price-sensitive markets where many makers can offer the same medicines.
The evidence. The offer document says generic medicines have low regulatory and cost barriers, the market is highly competitive and the company may face pricing pressure.Offer document, p.156
WatchHow strong is it against rivals? Its edge is product registrations in Sierra Leone and its formula know-how, but anyone can hire contract manufacturers and export.
The evidence. The offer document says the entry barrier for contract manufacturing and export is low and the company has no exclusive deals with its makers.Offer document, p.35
WatchWho are its customers?A small group of importers and pharmacies, mostly in Sierra Leone, with no long-term contracts.
The evidence. The top ten buyers gave 94.39% of sales and Sierra Leone 65.50% in April to November 2024; only two customers had one-year contracts.Offer document, p.34, p.159 and p.161
WatchDoes it need a lot of money? Not much for plant, but a lot for money owed by slow-paying export buyers.
The evidence. The largest planned use of the issue money was ₹13.0 cr for working capital, against ₹6.0 cr for machinery.Offer document, p.103
AverageCan it keep finding new work?It has many registered brands and a new plant, but orders come one purchase order at a time and planned new markets have no dates.
The evidence. The company held 147 product registrations and planned Laos, Vietnam, Zambia and Nigeria; Unit II started in January 2026.Offer document, p.151 and p.156; Annual Report 2026, p.28
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. With sales tied to a few buyers in a few countries, the mix of countries and buyers has changed sharply from year to year.
The evidence. Liberia and the United Kingdom gave most FY22 sales and nothing by April to November 2024, while Sierra Leone's share moved between 37.68% and 80.21%.Offer document, p.159
