About Dar Credit & Capital: business, products and customers

Dar Credit and Capital is a small Kolkata based lender that gives loans to low paid municipal workers such as sweepers and cleaners, and to small shopkeepers and traders, many of them women, in eastern and western India. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Dar Credit and Capital is a non deposit taking NBFC registered with the RBI, working from Kolkata and a regional office in Jaipur through branches in West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar and Jharkhand and camp offices in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. It has three loan lines: personal loans of up to five lakh rupees to class four municipal employees, unsecured small business loans to shopkeepers and vendors, and small business loans secured on property. It also originates loans for ESAF Small Finance Bank and Kaleidofin as a business correspondent, which sit on their books, not its own.

As a lender, its income is the interest it earns on loans, and its profit is what is left after paying interest to the banks and NBFCs it borrows from, staff and branch costs, and bad loans. So the gap between loan yields and its own borrowing cost drives results, and that cost rose in FY26. Loans to municipal workers are unsecured, but under a three way arrangement the municipality deducts each instalment from the worker's salary and pays the company directly, which management says is why collections in that book are steady.

Read more about the business

The offer document compares it with Spandana Sphoorty Financial, Muthoot Microfin and CreditAccess Grameen, listed microfinance lenders to low income borrowers, though management says it lends to individuals rather than the microfinance group model. Unlike most of them it is small and concentrated: CARE put about half its loans in West Bengal and nearly a third in Rajasthan in 2025.

What is new: it listed on NSE Emerge in May 2025, raising ₹25.7 cr, and since 2023 has pushed hardest on property backed small business loans after seeing stress in unsecured lending across the industry, opening six branches that make only these loans.

From the prospectus (May 2025), the investor presentation of May 2026, the earnings call transcripts of November 2025, February 2026 and May 2026, and the CARE rating rationale of August 2025.

In its favour

  • The promoters own a large part of the company: 69.14%.
  • It paid a dividend in the past year.

To watch

  • The loan book against the ₹260 cr to ₹280 cr the CEO spoke of for FY27 at the May 2026 call.
  • Net profit in FY27 against the ₹18 cr to ₹20 cr the Chairman spoke of in November 2025.
  • Bad loans in the secured and unsecured small business books, where CARE saw stress in eastern India in 2025.
  • The cost of borrowing, which rose in FY26, and the credit lines it is seeking from public sector banks.
  • The business used more cash than it brought in last year: ₹28.9 cr went out in FY26.

From the company's documents first, then the reported figures read by fixed rules, the same for every company. Facts, not a view on the shares.

At the May 2026 call the CEO said the loan book should reach about ₹260 cr to ₹280 cr in FY27, adding around ₹50 cr, with the balance sheet above ₹350 cr, five to seven new branches and no new states. The company wants secured business loans to rise to about 35% to 40% of the book, and is seeking credit lines from public sector banks. In November 2025 the Chairman said net profit should be about ₹18 cr to ₹20 cr in FY27, and in February 2026 the CEO said the company was on track for it.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Dar Credit and Capital earns the gap between the interest it charges small borrowers and what it pays its own lenders, and has kept bad loans low for a lender of its kind.

Its weak spots are a small loan book packed into two states, borrowers who are hit first in hard times, and a rising cost of the money it borrows.

AverageCan it set its own prices? It charges high rates to borrowers banks do not serve, but its own borrowing cost is set by its lenders and has been rising.
The evidence. Loan rates of 20% to 27% a year; gross yield of 21.21% in FY26 against an average borrowing cost of 13.07%, up from 11.49%; the CEO put current cost near 14%.Investor presentation, May 2026, p.16 and p.19; Earnings call transcript, May 2026, p.11
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? Its salary deduction loans to municipal workers are a niche held for over two decades, but in small business loans it is one of many lenders.
The evidence. CARE notes tie ups with 60 to 70 municipalities and minimal asset quality issues in that book, but calls the company small with high geographic concentration.CARE rating rationale, August 2025, p.1 and p.2
WatchWho are its customers?Low income workers and very small businesses, mostly in West Bengal and Rajasthan, who are more exposed to economic shocks.
The evidence. CARE says 83% of the book was unsecured at March 2025, half in West Bengal and 29% in Rajasthan, with rising delinquencies in newer small business loans in eastern India.CARE rating rationale, August 2025, p.2 and p.3
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes. Every rupee of growth in loans needs new borrowing or equity, though capital is well above the rule today.
The evidence. Borrowings of ₹184.5 cr from 7 banks, SIDBI and 29 NBFCs at March 2026; capital adequacy of 40.08%; management told CARE it would keep gearing at 2 to 2.5 times.Investor presentation, May 2026, p.8 and p.18; CARE rating rationale, August 2025, p.2
AverageCan it keep finding new work? Its loan book and branch count have grown and secured lending is rising fast, but it fell short of the book and branch targets it set for FY26.
The evidence. Own loan book of ₹229.5 cr at March 2026 against about ₹250 cr guided in November 2025; secured business loans more than doubled in the year; 35 branches against up to 42 planned.Investor presentation, May 2026, p.8 and p.19; Earnings call transcript, November 2025, p.6 and p.8
AverageDo good and bad years swing a lot?Bad loans have stayed low, but lenders to low income borrowers can see losses rise quickly when borrowers take on too much debt.
The evidence. Gross NPA rose from 0.55% in March 2024 to 1.47% in June 2025 on industry wide overborrowing, then stood at 1.01% in March 2026.CARE rating rationale, August 2025, p.3; Investor presentation, May 2026, p.6
