About Mega Flex Plastics: business, products and customers

Mega Flex Plastics makes airy plastic mesh bags that farmers and cold stores use to pack potatoes, onions and other produce, mostly in West Bengal. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Mega Flex Plastics, set up in Kolkata in 2003, makes leno bags: light, woven polypropylene mesh bags that let air through, used to pack and store potatoes, onions, garlic and other produce. It makes them at its factory in the Poly Park at Howrah, supplies dealers, wholesalers and stockists under brands such as Lenoflex, Kisan, Goldflex, Tiger, Tiranga and Hena, and runs its own trucks to reach remote parts of West Bengal. In FY26 it widened its sales network to states from Punjab and Rajasthan to Assam, and it also makes PP fabric and twine.

The company buys polypropylene granules and fabric and turns them into bags, so revenue moves with the price of polypropylene as well as with the number of bags, and margins depend on how quickly cost changes pass through. Demand follows the potato harvest and the cold storage season: the FY25 report credits a large potato crop for that year's jump, and most sales fall in the second half of the year. Dealers pay early, so money owed by customers is very small, while advances to suppliers and stock hold up cash instead.

Read more about the business

Much of its fabric comes from White Saffron Grains LLP, whose partners are the three promoter directors, Mohan Lal Parakh, Hukum Chand Bothra and Rakesh Sethia. The prospectus described the LLP setting up a unit of 50 leno looms on space leased from Mega Flex to cater to the company's needs; Mega Flex now buys fabric and tape from it, rents it two floors of its factory and has lent it money at interest. The prospectus also said the company aimed to raise output by processing bought fabric into bags.

The prospectus said no listed company in India is directly comparable. The company's own analysis names big players and fragmented, unorganised local makers as its competition and lists no entry barriers.

From the prospectus (August 2022), the FY25 and FY26 annual reports and the results for the year to March 2026.

In its favour

  • It brings in more cash than it shows as profit: ₹17.6 cr against ₹7.3 cr in FY26.
  • It has little debt for its size: debt to equity 0.03.
  • The promoters own a large part of the company: 73.92%.

To watch

  • Purchases from White Saffron Grains LLP against the ₹75 cr related party limit put to the August 2026 AGM, and the ₹8.2 cr loan to the LLP with no repayment schedule (Annual report FY26, p.35 to p.36 and p.76 to p.77).
  • Results for the half year to September 2026, the off season half, after a strong second half of FY26 (Results for the year to March 2026, filed 22 May 2026).
  • Use of the ₹4.4 cr warrant money meant for land in Khurdha, Odisha, still in a fixed deposit, and the board approved wide width and Nova Leno looms (Annual report FY26, p.50 and p.59).
  • The High Court case on the GST rate for leno bags, with ₹6.6 cr in dispute, and the first audit by V. Jalan & Co., proposed as auditor after S. Jaykishan's term ended (Annual report FY26, p.26, p.46 and p.101).
  • Its borrowings rose a lot last year: ₹2 cr, from ₹1.3 cr.

From the company's documents first, then the reported figures read by fixed rules, the same for every company. Facts, not a view on the shares.

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown. It borrowed much more last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business brought in more cash than it showed as profit. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers pay faster than they did in FY24, which frees up the company's money.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Mega Flex earns a thin margin turning polypropylene into mesh bags for farm produce, and its year depends on the potato crop.

Its weak spots are a crowded market anyone can enter and heavy dealings with a firm owned by its own promoter directors.

WatchCan it set its own prices? Not much. Bag prices follow polypropylene costs, and the company itself lists raw material swings and no entry barriers among its risks.
The evidence. The FY26 sales rise is put down partly to higher raw material prices; the SWOT lists no entry barriers and raw material price volatility; operating profit margin was 0.12 in FY26 against 0.08 in FY25.Annual report FY26, p.21, p.24 and p.40
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? It has known brands and its own delivery fleet in West Bengal, but competes with big players and many small local makers.
The evidence. The chairman points to the brands and the logistics fleet; the SWOT names increased competition from big players and fragmented, unorganised local competition.Annual report FY26, p.15 and p.21
WatchWho are its customers?Dealers and stockists who supply farmers and cold stores. At listing a few customers and one state gave most of the sales, and later reports give no new split.
The evidence. Top ten customers gave 79.21% of FY22 revenue and West Bengal 89.17%; in FY26 the sales network was widened to more states.Prospectus, p.24 to p.25 and p.99; Annual report FY26, p.40
AverageDoes it need a lot of money? Its plant needs are modest and debt is small, but money sits in loans and advances, including an open-ended loan to the promoters' LLP.
The evidence. Loan of ₹8.2 cr to White Saffron Grains at 9% with no repayment schedule; advances to suppliers of ₹4.4 cr; ₹7.2 cr held as balances with government authorities.Annual report FY26, p.76 to p.77 and p.94 to p.96
AverageCan it keep finding new work?Volumes have grown with new states and new looms, but there is no order book and each season sets demand afresh.
The evidence. Bags sold rose from 69.65 million in FY25 to 83.7 million in FY26; Leno4p looms were commissioned and wide width looms approved.Annual report FY25, p.27; Annual report FY26, p.23, p.40 and p.59
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. A weak crop or costly plastic can wipe out profit, while a big crop lifts it sharply.
The evidence. Profit after tax was ₹1.37 cr in FY24, ₹3.43 cr in FY25 and ₹7.27 cr in FY26; the FY25 chairman's message credits a large potato crop for that year's jump.Annual report FY25, p.15 and p.27; Annual report FY26, p.23
