About Shubhshree Biofuels Energy: business, products and customers

Shubhshree Biofuels Energy turns crop waste into fuel pellets and briquettes that factories and power plants burn instead of coal, oil or gas, and runs boilers for some of them. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Shubhshree Biofuels Energy is a Jaipur company that collects farm waste such as mustard husk, groundnut shells, soya residue and paddy straw through village level entrepreneurs, presses it into pellets and briquettes without binders, and delivers the fuel to thermal power plants and to factories in textiles, pharmaceuticals, food, tyres and other industries. It has five plants, with presses able to make 450 tonnes a day, and has begun a service line that runs clients' boilers, supplies the steam at a fixed price and handles the ash.

Most of the fuel it delivers is bought from other makers rather than made in its own plants: in FY25 purchases of finished fuel for resale were more than ten times its own raw material cost, and freight was a large cost too. So the gross margin is thin and moves with what it pays other makers and transporters.

Read more about the business

Power plants bring in about two fifths of sales and private industry the rest, the managing director said in June 2026. Raw material comes in two harvest seasons a year, so stock, cash and plant use swing with the crop. The managing director says competitors mostly only make and supply pellets, but names none, and the documents read do not name listed peers.

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown fast. It borrowed much more last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business used more cash than it brought in. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers take longer to pay than they did in FY24, which ties up more of the company's money in unpaid bills.

What the company said, and what happened

The company's own statements, attributed, set against what it later reported; not newboard's estimates

The managing director said in June 2026 that the company aims for revenue of about ₹350 cr in FY27 and more than ₹500 cr in FY28, and has full visibility of the FY27 figure. It plans five more plants in FY27, in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, to take its own capacity to 1,000 tonnes a day, with ₹15 to 20 cr of spending, and says the funding plan was still being decided. A torrefaction plant bought from China, which makes a higher value coal substitute, was due to be commissioned around July or August 2026, with commercial production in about six months.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Shubhshree earns its money by gathering and delivering crop waste fuel to factories and power plants, much of it bought from other makers, on a thin margin.

Its weak spots are that the crop comes only twice a year and customers pay slowly, so it keeps needing more money to grow.

AverageCan it set its own prices? Its fuel is much cheaper than oil or gas for customers, but most of its supply is bought in, so its own margin is thin.
The evidence. The managing director said biomass is now 60% to 70% cheaper than gas and oil; gross margin fell to 16.1% in FY26 from 25.4%.Earnings call, Jun 2026, p.7; Investor presentation, Jun 2026, p.12
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? Its farm collection network and boiler service set it apart, but making pellets is simple and the managing director expects more players.
The evidence. The managing director said the company has about 5% to 8% of supply to thermal power plants and that competition will come as demand grows.Earnings call, Jun 2026, p.10 and p.12
AverageWho are its customers?A wide spread of factories plus government power plants, with no single buyer named as dominant.
The evidence. About 40% of revenue is from power plants and 60% from private industry; the company names NTPC, Sun Pharma, Reliance and ITC among its partners.Earnings call, Jun 2026, p.11; Investor presentation, Jun 2026, p.7
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Plants are cheap, but working capital grows fast with sales, and cash from operations has been negative for two years.
The evidence. Receivables rose to ₹38.0 cr and stock to ₹8.1 cr at March 2026; operating cash flow was ₹-1.1 cr in FY26 and ₹-12.3 cr in FY25.Investor presentation, Jun 2026, p.33 and p.34
StrongCan it keep finding new work?Demand is growing because power plants must burn some biomass and factories want cleaner, cheaper fuel.
The evidence. The managing director cited a co-firing mandate for thermal power plants and said supply is short, with power plants getting far less biomass than they want.Earnings call, Jun 2026, p.5, p.6 and p.10
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?The business depends on the harvest and the weather, and a late crop can upset a whole year's cash cycle.
The evidence. The managing director said a long monsoon delayed the crop by about two months, which disturbed the cash conversion cycle.Earnings call, Jun 2026, p.15
