About Crayons Advertising: business, products and customers
Crayons Advertising plans advertising campaigns and books newspaper, television, outdoor and digital space for government departments, public sector companies and private brands, and runs events for them. It is based in New Delhi and its shares trade on NSE Emerge.
Crayons is an Indian-owned agency started in 1986 that makes campaigns, films and social media content and then buys the media to run them: newspaper space, television and radio slots, outdoor sites and digital ads. It also manages events and investor summits for state governments. It has offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Lucknow and Chandigarh, and in October 2025 set up a subsidiary in Dubai for the Middle East.
Revenue counts the full value of the media it books for clients, so most of each rupee is passed on to newspapers, channels and platforms. In FY26 cost of services took about 86 of every hundred rupees of consolidated revenue, and after salaries and office costs the operating margin was under two percent. The company says print, about half its billings, earns 5% to 7%, digital 10% to 14% and events 15% to 20%, so the mix moves margins. Clients pay on credit, so unpaid bills are large against revenue.
Read more about the business
Much of the work comes from government bodies, public sector banks and tourism boards, which pick a panel of two to four agencies through tenders with turnover and experience conditions and then split the work. Private clients include the Tata group's social media and an Adani brand, according to the company.
The offer document compared Crayons with Affle (India), Vertoz Advertising and Pressman Advertising. Pressman Advertising is the closest as a full-service agency booking media for clients; Affle and Vertoz are digital advertising technology firms. The company's finance head has said that many listed names called advertising peers are outdoor site owners, a different business.
From the offer document (prospectus, May 2023), the FY26 annual report, the January 2026 investor meet transcript and exchange announcements of 2025 and 2026.

Crayons Advertising revenue and profit growth
Half-yearly results · Profit and lossSales have grown slowly. Last year profit fell even as sales rose, so the company kept less from each rupee of sales.
SME companies report every six months. In the latest half, sales were higher than in the same half a year before. Profit grew more slowly than sales, so each rupee of sales left a little less profit.

Is it a good business? Six questions
Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.
Crayons Advertising earns a small slice on the media it books for government bodies and brands, plus fees on creative work and events.
Its weak spots are a very thin margin, large unpaid bills, profit that rests on interest income, and large loans to a company of its own promoters.
WatchCan it set its own prices? No. Competition has been strong, and government work is often won on the financial bid.
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? Its size and track record let it qualify for government panels that few agencies can enter, but the field is crowded and panels are shared.
WatchWho are its customers?Mostly government departments, public sector companies and a few large brands, with a handful of clients making up most of the revenue.
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes. Clients pay on credit and bills stay unpaid for months, and the company has also lent large sums outside its business.
AverageCan it keep finding new work?It keeps winning and renewing mandates, but government contracts run for set terms and must be won again.
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. Advertising budgets are among the first cut in a downturn, and margins have fallen sharply even as billings grew.
