About Laxmipati Engineering Works: business, products and customers

Laxmipati Engineering Works builds large steel equipment such as tanks, scrubbers, ducts and pressure vessels at its workshop near Surat, and does fabrication and maintenance work at the plants of steel, oil and engineering companies. It belongs to the Surat based Laxmipati Group and its shares trade on BSE SME.

Laxmipati Engineering Works, once called L. P. Naval and Engineering, started as a shipbuilding company and now works mainly as a fabrication and heavy engineering contractor. Its workshop at Palsana near Surat brings in about three quarters of sales; the rest comes from work at client sites such as L&T at Hazira. Recent jobs include scrubbers, tanks and ducts for AM/NS Hazira, stainless steel equipment for JSW Steel, export work for Zeeco, fabrication at Mazagon Dock and projects for several L&T units.

The company books all its sales as services, and each job is won and priced separately. That shapes the numbers: steel and consumables, its own workers and contract labour are the main costs, so steel prices and how busy the workshop is decide the margin. Sales rise and fall with the plant spending of a small group of large clients, and steel in stock, half finished jobs and money owed by clients take up a lot of cash between orders.

Read more about the business

The company is part of a group whose main business is textiles, and its ties to the group run deep. Its factory land and building at Palsana belong to Siddhi Vinayak Polyfab, a group company with the same directors, to which it pays rent, and for years it borrowed heavily from group companies. In FY26 it sold assets at a large profit, with its Dahej land leaving the books, and repaid most of those group loans.

The documents name no listed competitors; the annual report describes intense competition and aggressive pricing from other fabrication firms.

  • Dealings with group companies: rent to Siddhi Vinayak Polyfab, ₹6.2 cr of group loans still owed, and a ₹2.0 cr customer advance from Laxmipati Apparel, a company with the same directors (Annual report FY26, p.104 and p.110 to p.111).

Exceptional and other items: profit before tax beyond operating profit, other income, interest and depreciation, such as one-off items or a share of associates' profit, as reported.

A tax rate above 60% or below zero (FY21, FY23, FY25) comes from tax charged on a small or negative profit, as reported.

Earnings per share before FY19 is on the share count of that time, before later bonus or share issues, so it does not compare with the years after.

Laxmipati Engineering Works debt and cash flow

Balance sheet · Cash flow · Working capital

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown fast. It cut its borrowings last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business brought in less cash than it showed as profit, so part of the profit is still to be collected. Customers take longer to pay than they did in FY24, which ties up more of the company's money in unpaid bills.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Laxmipati earns its money by building heavy steel equipment and doing site work for large steel, oil and engineering companies, job by job.

Its weak spots are sales that swing with clients' plant spending, tough price competition and deep reliance on its promoter group for premises and, until recently, money.

WatchCan it set its own prices? No. Jobs are bid against other fabricators, and the company says steel and other input prices move its project margins.
The evidence. The annual report lists intense competition with aggressive pricing from other fabrication firms, and steel, copper and fuel price swings that hit project margins.Annual report FY26, p.46
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? Its certified shop and repeat work for big names give it standing, but many firms compete for the same fabrication work.
The evidence. Shop certification with ASME and the National Board renewed in FY25; repeat projects for AM/NS Hazira and L&T units.Annual report FY25, p.62; Annual report FY26, p.46
AverageWho are its customers? Its clients are large, well known industrial companies, but they are few and the company does not say how much each one brings.
The evidence. 16 principal clients including L&T units, AM/NS, JSW Steel, BPCL and Indian Oil; no client shares disclosed.Annual report FY26, p.46
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes. Steel stock and money owed by clients take up cash, new workshops need a large bank loan, and for years it leaned on loans from group companies.
The evidence. Inventory rose ₹4.7 cr and receivables ₹5.8 cr in FY26; group company loans were ₹38.1 cr at March 2025; ₹22.7 cr term loan sanctioned in February 2026.Annual report FY26, p.99 and p.104
StrongCan it keep finding new work?It has steadily added large clients and new kinds of work, though it publishes no order book.
The evidence. Principal clients rose from 6 in FY23 to 16 in FY26, with a JSW Steel order, export work for Zeeco and fabrication at Mazagon Dock; more than 37 projects completed in FY26.Results presentation, June 2023, p.7; Annual report FY26, p.46
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. Sales nearly halved in one bad year and the company made a loss, before recovering.
The evidence. Total revenue fell from ₹28.0 cr in FY22 to ₹15.3 cr in FY23 with a loss of ₹4.7 cr; workshop use fell from 40% to 30%.Results presentation, June 2023, p.6 and p.16
