About Optimystix Entertainment India: business, products and customers

Optimystix Entertainment makes television shows, web series and films for Indian TV channels, streaming services and film studios, and is known for comedy, crime and children's shows. It is based in Mumbai and its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Optimystix Entertainment was founded in Mumbai in 2000 by Vipul D. Shah and is co-headed by Rajesh Darshan Bahl. It has produced more than 150 television shows, including Comedy Circus, Crime Patrol, Baalveer, Indian Idol's first season and Laughter Chefs, and since 2022 has moved into feature films such as OMG 2, Khel Khel Mein and The Diplomat and into web series. Revenue comes from three lines: commissioned TV shows, web series for streaming services, and films and their rights.

How each line is paid shapes the numbers. TV and web series are made to order on a cost-plus basis: the channel or platform fixes a budget per episode, pays in milestones, owns the show and pays for its marketing, so revenue is the budget and the margin is steady but capped. Films are co-owned: T-Series funds production and handles sales, and the company keeps half of the rights and profits, so film income depends on release timing and box office and swings from year to year. Owned content is the newest part: costs are carried as inventory until a show or film is sold, so cash goes out well before revenue comes in.

Read more about the business

The films named above were made through Wakaoo Films LLP, a partnership co-founded by the promoters in which the company holds 48%; in FY26 the company bought rights worth ₹12.2 cr from it and was owed ₹14.6 cr by it at March 2026. The offer document names Panorama Studios International, Cinevista and Balaji Telefilms as listed peers, all of which produce films or television content, and cites an industry report naming Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, Maddock Films, Balaji Telefilms and Sunshine Productions as leading production houses.

What is new: the company is shifting from making shows for others to owning more of what it makes, with a regional film slate in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, animated shows for its own YouTube channels, and short vertical dramas for an app it is building. It raised fresh money in its August 2026 listing to fund this.

The company has not given guidance on sales or profit and does not disclose an order book. Its stated plan is to keep the commissioned TV business while owning more of its content: regional films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, animated shows on its own YouTube channels and short vertical dramas on an app. To fund this it plans to spend issue money on working capital in FY27 and FY28, and its offer document projects working capital rising to ₹205.7 cr by FY28, mostly content inventory, which it says will be expensed as projects are released or licensed.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

The company earns a steady fee for making shows to order for a few big channels and platforms, plus a share of film profits.

Its weak spots are dependence on a handful of buyers, film income that swings, and cash tied up in unpaid bills and unsold content.

AverageCan it set its own prices? On shows made to order it earns an agreed margin over cost, so its margin is protected but capped; only owned content can earn more.
The evidence. TV and web series run on a cost-plus margin with budgets locked per episode or season and milestone payments.Offer document, p.166
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? It has a long record of hit formats and ties with every major channel, but competes with many established and new production houses.
The evidence. More than 150 shows and 7,500 hours made; the offer document calls the market highly competitive, with established houses, new entrants and international content providers.Offer document, p.141 and p.170
WatchWho are its customers?Big channels, streaming services and studios, but very few of them, with one buyer giving over a third of revenue.
The evidence. Twenty customers in FY26; the top five gave 85.05% of revenue and JioStar India 36.21%.Offer document, p.31 and p.144
WatchDoes it need a lot of money? It owns almost no machinery, but needs a lot of cash to carry unsold content and wait for payment, and plans to carry more.
The evidence. Inventory was ₹70.4 cr and receivables ₹48.7 cr at March 2026, operating cash was negative in FY26, and the company projects inventory of ₹150.9 cr by FY28.Offer document, p.97, p.98 and p.276
AverageCan it keep finding new work?Long-running franchises keep getting renewed and the T-Series partnership brings film work, but every contract is project by project.
The evidence. The offer document says contracts are generally project to project with no certainty of future commissions; the company says it owns more than 50 IPs.Offer document, p.32 and p.168
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes: the mix between TV, web series and films changes sharply from year to year with release timing.
The evidence. Films were 2.79% of revenue in FY24, 45.84% in FY25 and 23.08% in FY26; web series were nil in FY25 and 32.36% in FY26.Offer document, p.143
