About Sadhav Shipping: business, products and customers

Sadhav Shipping owns and runs boats and ships that serve offshore oil fields and Indian ports, from supply vessels and pilot boats to oil spill clean-up teams. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Sadhav Shipping started in Mumbai in 1996 with a single barge and now runs a fleet of about 20 vessels in three lines: offshore logistics (supply, anchor handling and crew boats for oil and gas fields, mainly for ONGC), port services (pilot, patrol, survey and work boats, plus mooring crews) and oil spill response, where it set up India's first port-based Tier-1 facility at Mumbai and JNPA. Its clients include ONGC, the Mumbai, Paradip, JNPA and Chennai port authorities and a defence-linked company. Offshore logistics brought in ₹25.4 cr of the ₹31.2 cr revenue in the June 2026 quarter.

It earns a day rate for each vessel on charter, and in almost all contracts the client supplies the fuel, so revenue moves with vessels at work and their rates rather than with fuel prices. Owning the vessels brings heavy depreciation and interest, so a high operating margin shrinks a lot before it reaches profit, and growth needs new vessels: offshore ships are bought second-hand and port and oil spill boats are built new. The monsoon stops some offshore crew boats for about four months, so the second half of each year is normally bigger than the first.

Read more about the business

In FY26 it sold the vessel Aditri, which had worked in Nigeria, and the smaller Bali; management says the sale took away about ₹30 cr to ₹40 cr of yearly revenue, and the vessel Canara Pride began a large ONGC contract in September 2025. In the June 2026 quarter it won a seven-year pilot launch contract from Mumbai Port and ordered four new pilot and security boats. It also holds 26% of United Sadhav Integrated Maritime, a joint venture with United Petro Group planning a shipyard and offshore supply base, which still awaits land from the Government of Odisha.

On the May 2026 call, ABS Marine and Great Eastern Shipping came up as listed offshore vessel owners comparable with Sadhav, while management said Seamec works in a different offshore segment. CARE describes the shipping industry as fragmented, with many small players and intense competition for tenders.

From the annual reports for FY24 and FY25, the investor presentations of September 2025, May 2026 and August 2026, the earnings call transcripts of May and August 2026 and the CARE rating note of October 2025.

In its favour

  • The promoters own a large part of the company: 61.78%.

To watch

  • The 20% sales growth and 30% EBITDA margin guided for FY27, against a 25% margin in the June 2026 quarter (earnings call transcripts, May 2026, p.8 and Aug 2026, p.3 and p.17).
  • Delivery of the new pilot boats and the start of the Mumbai Port and JNPA contracts around January or February 2027 (earnings call transcript, Aug 2026, p.9); a termination of the JNPA contract filed on 18 August 2026 was withdrawn by a filing on 3 October 2026.
  • Renewal of the ONGC charters for Canara Pride and Sadhav Anusha, which run to about FY28 and FY29 and make up most of the order book (earnings call transcript, May 2026, p.15; CARE rating note, 9 Oct 2025, p.2).
  • Governance: the internal auditor's FY25 report had qualifications or adverse remarks, answered by management; the company guarantees ₹16.17 cr for Sadhav Offshore Engineering; an NSE filing of 7 Sep 2026 reports a change in management after the AGM (annual report FY25, p.58 and p.104).
  • Customers take longer to pay than before: 85 days in FY26, against 63 in FY21.

Sadhav Shipping debt and cash flow

Balance sheet · Cash flow · Working capital

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown. It cut its borrowings last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business brought in less cash than it showed as profit, so part of the profit is still to be collected. Customers take longer to pay than they did in FY24, which ties up more of the company's money in unpaid bills.

What the company said, and what happened

The company's own statements, attributed, set against what it later reported; not newboard's estimates

The company says FY27 sales should be about 20% higher than FY26, a figure kept on the August 2026 call after a range of 15% to 20% in May, with an EBITDA margin of 30%, against 26% in FY26 and 25% in the June 2026 quarter. It cites an order book of about ₹350 cr spread over up to seven years. Management says the new pilot boats for Mumbai Port and JNPA should start around January or February 2027, adding about ₹4 cr a year with the full effect in FY28, and that it hopes to move to the NSE main board by early or mid next year, as said in August 2026. It has not given figures for FY28.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Sadhav earns day rates for its vessels and crews from oil field operators and ports, with long port and oil spill contracts beside a few big offshore charters.

Its weak spots are dependence on one oil company and two vessels, the heavy cost of owning ships, and margins that slipped in the latest year.

WatchCan it set its own prices? Not really. Work is won by tender in a crowded market, and rates follow the oil and gas cycle.
The evidence. CARE calls the industry fragmented with intense competition and linked to charter rates; management said in August 2026 that charter rates in India are softening, though FY25 renewals came at higher rates.CARE rating note, 9 Oct 2025, p.2 to 3; earnings call transcript, Aug 2026, p.18
AverageHow strong is it against rivals? It has three decades of work for ONGC and the ports and an early lead in port oil spill response, but it is small and must win tenders against many others.
The evidence. First port-based Tier-1 oil spill response facility in India; registered vendor with ONGC and DRDO; CARE notes a moderate scale of operations.Annual report FY24, p.11 to 12; investor presentation, May 2026, p.12; CARE rating note, 9 Oct 2025, p.1
WatchWho are its customers?Mostly government bodies that pay reliably, but a single oil company gives about half the revenue.
The evidence. ONGC gave about 49% of FY25 revenue and the top five customers over 88%; two ONGC vessels made up about 81% of the August 2025 order book.CARE rating note, 9 Oct 2025, p.2
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes. More revenue needs more vessels, which are bought largely on loans, and its working capital lines run close to full.
The evidence. Management says the services that move revenue need capital spending; borrowings were ₹81.2 cr at March 2026; CARE reported 94% average use of working capital limits in the year to August 2025.Earnings call transcript, Aug 2026, p.8; investor presentation, Aug 2026, p.24; CARE rating note, 9 Oct 2025, p.3
AverageCan it keep finding new work?It keeps adding port contracts, but the big offshore work depends on oil company tenders that management says have slowed.
The evidence. New work since 2025 includes Chennai Port mooring, a repeat Paradip oil spill order (₹4.67 cr), a defence-linked vessel order (₹6.33 cr) and the Mumbai Port contract (₹18 cr); management said oil and gas tenders are only trickling in.Investor presentation, May 2026, p.5; earnings call transcript, Aug 2026, p.4; earnings call transcript, May 2026, p.16
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. The monsoon makes each first half weaker, and idle or late vessels move profit sharply because the costs of owning ships stay fixed.
The evidence. EBITDA margin fell to 26% in FY26 from 32% in FY25 on delayed vessel mobilisation, and profit before tax fell to ₹10.7 cr from ₹17.4 cr; offshore revenue drops by about ₹4 cr a month in the monsoon.Investor presentation, Aug 2026, p.23; earnings call transcript, May 2026, p.5 and p.7
