About Ducol Organics And Colours: business, products and customers

Ducol Organics and Colours makes ready to use colour pastes, powders and plastic pellets that paint, ink, plastic, textile and soap factories mix into their products. Through companies it has bought, it now also makes waterproofing sheets and building chemicals, and its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Ducol started as a laboratory in 1990 and makes pigment dispersions, colour concentrates and masterbatches at two plants in Taloja and a newer one at Mahad, all in Raigad district, Maharashtra. Its customers are paint, ink, plastic, textile, rubber, paper, soap and detergent makers in India and abroad, who order against purchase orders rather than long term contracts. Pigment and resin costs, which follow crude oil, are largely passed on in its prices, so revenue can fall in a year when it ships more, as it did in FY24.

Since April 2025 the company owns Bitumag Industries of Vadodara, which makes bitumen based waterproofing membranes for buildings, bridges and tunnels, and in May 2026 it took a majority stake in Xchem Polymers of Vapi, which makes waterproofing compounds, tile adhesives, repair mortars and industrial adhesives. These supply builders and contractors rather than to factories, and from FY26 the reported figures combine both kinds of business.

Read more about the business

The acquisitions were paid for partly with borrowed money, so interest costs now take a larger share of operating profit, and the company says the cost will ease as the debt is repaid. The balance of the Xchem price is to be settled in shares and cash over the next two years.

The offer document describes competition from unorganised makers, Indian companies and multinationals, without naming them.

From the offer document, the annual reports for FY24 and FY25, the August 2025 investor presentation and the company's press releases of January, March and May 2026.

In its favour

  • Nothing stands out on these rules this year.

To watch

  • Settlement of the remaining ₹37 cr of the Xchem price through shares and cash within 24 months of March 2026 (Press release, 20 May 2026, p.3).
  • Repayment of acquisition borrowings, which the company says will lift margins (Press release, 20 May 2026, p.2).
  • Completion of the second shed at Mahad and the Taloja upgrade toward 45,000 tonnes of capacity (Annual report FY25, p.8).
  • Results for the half year to September 2026, the first to include Xchem (Press release, 22 May 2026, p.2).
  • Customers take longer to pay than before: 74 days in FY26, against 57 in FY20.

From the company's documents first, then the reported figures read by fixed rules, the same for every company. Facts, not a view on the shares.

Sales have grown steadily. Last year profit grew more slowly than sales, so the profit kept from each rupee of sales slipped.

The years to FY25 come rounded to the nearest crore in the source.

A tax rate above 60% or below zero (FY20) comes from tax charged on a small or negative profit, as reported.

Earnings per share before FY21 is on the share count of that time, before later bonus or share issues, so it does not compare with the years after.

Ducol Organics And Colours debt and cash flow

Balance sheet · Cash flow · Working capital

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business used more cash than it brought in. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers take longer to pay than they did in FY24, which ties up more of the company's money in unpaid bills.

What the company said, and what happened

The company's own statements, attributed, set against what it later reported; not newboard's estimates

The company says it will keep building a waterproofing and construction chemicals business alongside colours, integrate Xchem and offer products across both customer bases, and add partnerships and distribution alliances. It aims to raise dispersion capacity to 45,000 tonnes a year over the medium term. It says interest costs from the acquisitions are temporary and margins should improve as the debt is repaid. It gives no sales or profit guidance.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Ducol earns a processing margin on turning pigments into ready to use colour for factories, and has bought two building chemicals companies to grow beyond that.

Its weak spots are a few large customers, prices that follow raw material costs, and borrowings taken on to pay for the acquisitions.

AverageCan it set its own prices? It passes raw material costs through to customers, so prices follow input costs rather than its own choice, and sudden cost spikes can squeeze it.
The evidence. FY24 revenue fell as lower raw material costs were passed on despite higher volumes; the offer document warns some cost rises may not be passed on.Annual report FY24, p.38; Offer document, p.23
AverageHow strong is it against rivals?Long experience and a wide range help it keep customers, but it competes with unorganised makers, Indian companies and multinationals.
The evidence. The offer document says competition comes from the unorganised market, Indian corporates and MNCs, some with greater resources.Offer document, p.23
WatchWho are its customers?A handful of large customers gave most of its sales at listing, and they order on purchase orders without long contracts.
The evidence. The top five customers gave 85.80% of revenue in the six months to September 2022, with no firm commitment supply agreements.Offer document, p.22
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Plant expansion and two acquisitions have needed large sums, partly borrowed, and part of the Xchem price is still to be paid.
The evidence. Bitumag cost ₹39.7 cr and Xchem ₹75 cr in total, and acquisition borrowings added ₹2.20 cr of finance costs in FY26.Annual report FY25, p.31; Press release, 20 May 2026, p.3
AverageCan it keep finding new work?It sold more tonnes of colour even in a weak year and has added building chemicals, but growth now leans on acquisitions.
The evidence. Volumes grew over 13% in FY25 while revenue was nearly flat; consolidated FY26 growth came mostly from Bitumag.Investor presentation, August 2025, p.6; Press release, 20 May 2026, p.3
AverageDo good and bad years swing a lot?Revenue moves with pigment prices and with demand in paint and ink, and the newer business follows construction activity.
The evidence. Revenue fell in FY24 as raw material prices dropped, and the company described a challenging FY25 with industry headwinds.Annual report FY24, p.38; Investor presentation, August 2025, p.6
