About Fidel Softech: business, products and customers

Fidel Softech is a Pune software services company that does IT work in local languages, above all Japanese, and translates and adapts software, videos and data for clients in Japan, the US and India. It now has its own teams in Japan and the US, and its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Fidel does two kinds of work. About 70% of revenue is technology and bilingual consulting: software development, managed IT support, cloud and infrastructure services and staffing, often delivered in Japanese. About 30% is language and data work: translation, subtitling, software localisation and building multilingual data sets that train AI systems.

It earns money by billing people by the hour or month, or by volume of words, minutes or records. About 70% of its business comes through large system integrators rather than end customers, and Japan and nearby Asia bring about 55% of revenue, the US 27% and Europe and others 18%. Staff working onsite in Japan and the US bill more but cost much more, so the company says that the 53% of revenue from its newer US and Japan operations earns single digit margins while the rest earns double digit margins. As more work moves onsite, the margin in percent falls even as revenue grows.

Read more about the business

Most of the FY26 jump came from buying businesses: Techvine, a US consulting firm; Fidel Technologies KK in Japan; and IM Corporation in Japan, taken over on 6 January 2026, which brought a local team and access to more than forty clients. The purchases were partly paid for with yen loans of five to eight years. Some clients that Fidel served from India now prefer onsite delivery, so standalone India revenue fell while group revenue rose.

The offer document said no listed Indian company focuses only on the segment Fidel works in, so it named no listed peer. The company says its edge is two decades of Japanese language delivery with its own people in Japan, the US and India.

From the offer document (prospectus), the FY25 annual report, the October 2025 investor presentation, the April 2026 earnings call transcript and the July 2026 shareholder update.

Sales have grown fast. Last year profit grew more slowly than sales, so the profit kept from each rupee of sales slipped.

Exceptional and other items: profit before tax beyond operating profit, other income, interest and depreciation, such as one-off items or a share of associates' profit, as reported.

A tax rate above 60% or below zero (FY14, FY15, FY17, FY18) comes from tax charged on a small or negative profit, as reported.

Earnings per share before FY17 is on the share count of that time, before later bonus or share issues, so it does not compare with the years after.

The company's own money, its net worth, has grown fast. It borrowed much more last year. Its loans are smaller than its own money. Last year the business brought in less cash than it showed as profit, so part of the profit is still to be collected. It spent more on assets and investments than the business brought in, and raised the rest from loans or shares. Customers take about as long to pay as they did in FY24.

What the company said, and what happened

The company's own statements, attributed, set against what it later reported; not newboard's estimates

The company says it does not give guidance. In April 2026 it described a vision of five times revenue in five years and about ₹300 cr in three to three and a half years, and said that simply holding the latest quarter's run rate would mean about ₹140 cr to ₹150 cr a year. In July 2026 it said FY27 would be a year of growth and consolidation, with the next 18 to 24 months spent integrating the acquisitions, moving more work offshore and slowly rebuilding margins; moving IM Corporation into Fidel's Tokyo office from 1 August 2026 is expected to save about US$100,000 a year. It also hopes to move to the NSE main board once it meets the revised criteria.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Fidel Softech earns money by billing for skilled people who can do IT and language work in Japanese and other languages, mostly as a subcontractor to large IT firms.

Its weak spot is that recent growth came from buying lower margin onsite businesses, and turning them into profitable ones is still work in progress.

AverageCan it set its own prices? Its Japanese language skill is scarce, which helps, but most work comes through system integrators that set the terms.
The evidence. About 70% of business comes through system integrators; the company would not say whether it can hold a 13% to 15% margin.Earnings call transcript, April 2026, p.8 and p.14
AverageHow strong is it against rivals?Few small Indian firms can deliver in Japanese with their own people in Japan, but large IT firms can do the technical work.
The evidence. The company calls its Japan business a niche with high entry barriers; it won a Japan managed services deal against top tier integrators.Earnings call transcript, April 2026, p.5, p.6 and p.13; Shareholder update, 30 July 2026, p.2
WatchWho are its customers?A small number of large clients and integrators have made up most of revenue.
The evidence. Top five customers were 78.18% of FY22 revenue; about 70% of business still comes through system integrators.Offer document, p.121; Earnings call transcript, April 2026, p.14
StrongDoes it need a lot of money?Little for daily work; the money has gone into buying businesses, partly with low cost yen loans.
The evidence. Cash rose to ₹32.5 cr in FY26 after paying for deals; borrowings of about ₹43 cr are yen loans at 2% to 3.25%.Earnings call transcript, April 2026, p.4 and p.10
AverageCan it keep finding new work?Revenue has grown for many quarters in a row and new deals keep coming, but most new lines are still small or in trial.
The evidence. Sixteen straight quarters of growth to Q4 FY26; new work includes a JPY 100 mn managed services deal, a Japanese capability centre worth about ₹1 cr a year and Spoggle projects of about ₹0.2 cr.Earnings call transcript, April 2026, p.3; Shareholder update, 30 July 2026, p.1
AverageDo good and bad years swing a lot?Service work recurs year to year, but quarters can vary, and yen and dollar rates move results.
The evidence. The company says the first quarter is usually tougher and that forex, recruitment costs and attrition are among its uncertainties.Earnings call transcript, April 2026, p.17; Shareholder update, 30 July 2026, p.6
