About Goldkart Jewels: business, products and customers

Goldkart Jewels offers gold jewellery, its own designs and branded pieces bought from other makers, from its showroom in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.

Goldkart Jewels, called Sona Hi Sona Jewellers (Gujarat) until October 2023, deals in gold jewellery with or without precious and semi-precious stones, customises pieces for buyers and also trades branded jewellery made by others; design and jobwork are done in house or by outside job workers. Founder Vijay Chinubhai Shah started in jewellery in 2000 with the proprietorship Sona Hi Sona and formed the company in Ahmedabad in 2010. Crisil's May 2025 notes describe it as a jewellery retailer with its showroom in Ahmedabad and all its stores in Gujarat.

Most of what it offers is bought ready made, so gold makes up nearly all of the price and profit is a thin slice of sales: in FY26 purchases of traded goods were larger than sales because stock was built up. Growth needs more stock and more credit to buyers, which the company funds with bank cash credit backed by property of two directors and a director's relative, and by personal guarantees; in FY26 sales rose by about two fifths while operating cash turned negative and borrowings more than doubled. Its equity investments are carried at market value with changes taken to other comprehensive income, which was a gain of ₹16.95 cr in the half to September 2025 and a loss of ₹16.55 cr in the half to March 2026, so net worth moves with that share price.

Read more about the business

The FY26 report says the company is expanding its retail footprint and setting up an in-house refinery; its capital work in progress relates to a new showroom in Bhopal and a manufacturing facility at Sarkhej, Ahmedabad, with no cost or opening date given. The annual reports name no competitors; Crisil points to competition from reputed local brands and many small independent players in a fragmented trade with low entry barriers.

From the FY26 and FY25 annual reports filed on NSE, the audited results for the year to March 2026 and the Crisil rating notes of 5 and 9 May 2025.

In its favour

  • Sales have grown fast: 27% a year over three years.
  • The promoters own a large part of the company: 74.14%.

To watch

  • Loans with Laxmi Goldorna House, a promoter group company: the September 2025 AGM notice sought approval to borrow up to ₹500 cr from it and lend it up to ₹500 cr (Annual report FY25, p.9 to p.10 and p.26 to p.27).
  • Higher limits: the September 2026 AGM notice sought approval for loans, investments and guarantees, and for borrowing, of up to ₹300 cr each (Annual report FY26, p.16 to p.17 and p.35 to p.36).
  • The Bhopal showroom, the Sarkhej manufacturing facility and the refinery, still in capital work in progress at March 2026 with no date given (Annual report FY26, p.6 and p.98).
  • Stock checks: the auditor's key audit matter says its direct physical verification of gold and bullion was limited and it relied on management's verification and the lender's stock counts (Annual report FY26, p.78 to p.80).
  • Customers take longer to pay than before: 42 days in FY26, against 12 in FY15.

From the company's documents first, then the reported figures read by fixed rules, the same for every company. Facts, not a view on the shares.

Sales have grown fast. Last year profit grew more slowly than sales, so the profit kept from each rupee of sales slipped.

Is it a good business? Six questions

Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.

Goldkart earns a thin margin on gold jewellery, much of it bought ready made, from a showroom base in Ahmedabad.

Its weak spots are the stock and credit it must fund with bank loans, a very small team, and wide approvals for loans with a promoter group company.

WatchCan it set its own prices?Little room. Gold sets most of the price, and the company says gold price swings and competition press on its margins.
The evidence. The management discussion says fluctuations in gold prices may challenge margins and that unorganised and regional players make competition intense; Crisil says limited value addition kept the operating margin at 2% to 4% in the three years to March 2024.Annual report FY26, p.62; Crisil rating note, 5 May 2025, p.1
WatchHow strong is it against rivals? It is a small regional jeweller in a crowded trade.
The evidence. Crisil calls jewellery retail highly fragmented with low entry barriers, calls the company's scale modest and cites competition from reputed local brands.Crisil rating note, 9 May 2025, p.1
AverageWho are its customers?Jewellery buyers, so far served only from Gujarat, and buyers owed it more money at the end of last year.
The evidence. Crisil says all its stores are in Gujarat and that gold buying depends on the local economy; trade receivables were ₹13.5 cr at March 2026 against ₹6.2 cr a year earlier.Crisil rating note, 9 May 2025, p.1; Annual report FY26, p.94
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes. Stock and credit to buyers have to be carried, and the company calls its industry highly capital intensive.
The evidence. Crisil put gross current assets at about 200 days at March 2024; the Union Bank loans are backed by a bungalow owned by Vijaybhai and Alpaben Shah and land owned by Chinubhai J. Shah, described as a relative of a director, and the State Bank of India loan by land of Chinubhai Jayantilal Shah and personal guarantees.Annual report FY26, p.61 and p.101 to p.102; Crisil rating note, 9 May 2025, p.1
AverageCan it keep finding new work?Sales have grown three years running and a second city is planned, but a retail jeweller has no order book.
The evidence. Revenue was ₹68.2 cr in FY24, ₹82.4 cr in FY25 and ₹117.3 cr in FY26; capital work in progress covers a Bhopal showroom and a Sarkhej manufacturing facility.Annual report FY25, p.34; Annual report FY26, p.43 and p.98
WatchDo good and bad years swing a lot?Yes. Sales have risen and fallen with gold demand, and profit in the latest half was far thinner than in the one before.
The evidence. Crisil says revenue was ₹55 cr to ₹80 cr in the four years to March 2024; profit was ₹2.87 cr in the half to September 2025 and ₹0.68 cr in the half to March 2026.Crisil rating note, 5 May 2025, p.1; Results for the year to March 2026, p.5
