About Magson Retail And Distribution: business, products and customers
Magson runs food stores in Gujarat, Udaipur and Goa that specialise in gourmet, frozen and imported foods and chocolates. Its shares trade on NSE Emerge.
Magson runs stores for gourmet, frozen, imported and speciality foods, groceries and imported chocolates under the Magson and My Chocolate World names, in Ahmedabad and other Gujarat cities, in Udaipur and, since September 2025, in Goa, where it bought the Magsons and Champagne and Cigars chain. It also owns 40% of Goan Bakery, a speciality bakery in Ahmedabad, and from January 2026 bought Ksheer and Milk Products, an Ahmedabad business that distributed food and milk products. The Nasta Bazar stores for Gujarati snacks, launched in FY25, were all closed in FY26.
Magson purchases branded food from suppliers and resells it, so it earns a trading margin, and store rent, staff and running costs decide whether anything is left. In FY26 operating profit before other income was about 2.4% of sales (our arithmetic), and interest on deposits and other income was larger than the whole profit before tax. Taking over franchise stores and buying the Goa chain added sales at once, but the Goa price was booked mostly as goodwill, and much of the money raised sits in advances for property and loans to other companies rather than in stores.

What the company said, and what happened
The company's own statements, attributed, set against what it later reported; not newboard's estimates
The FY25 and FY26 annual reports both say the company plans to open an additional 50 stores over the next two years, after opening nine in FY25. The FY26 report repeats the plan word for word and gives a lower store count than the 49 stated a year earlier.

Is it a good business? Six questions
Each answer is about that one question, read from the documents; tap one for the evidence. Not a view on the shares.
Magson earns a thin trading margin reselling gourmet and imported food in its own stores, and recently grew by buying a store chain in Goa.
Its weak spots are profit too small to cover much beyond store costs, money raised from investors that sits in advances and loans to other companies, and a promoter group that has sold down.
WatchCan it set its own prices? No. It resells branded products in a market it calls highly competitive, and very little of each sale is left as operating profit.
WatchHow strong is it against rivals? Its edge is a niche range of imported and speciality food, but no competitor is named and one store format was closed within a year of launch.
AverageWho are its customers? Many individual shoppers paying mostly in cash, so no single customer matters, but the stores are concentrated in Gujarat, Udaipur and Goa.
WatchDoes it need a lot of money?Yes. Cash from operations has been negative, and the money raised has gone into an acquisition, property advances and loans to other companies more than into stores.
AverageCan it keep finding new work?New stores, the Goa chain and a milk distribution business add sales, but the stated store plan has not been met and a private label project is still at trial stage.
AverageDo good and bad years swing a lot?Food demand is steady, but profit has swung with expansion costs: it fell sharply in FY25 when new stores and Nasta Bazar raised operating costs.
